Aswan Spice Market
Several travelers have recommended that we wait to purchase Egyptian handicrafts, jewelery and other souvenirs until we reach the market in Aswan. (days 9 -10 of our tour)
I found this interesting report from a traveler on TripAdvisor:
"My group visited Aswan toward the end of our Egyptian vacation, so by the time we reached this wonderful town, we already had experience passing through throngs of vendors all trying to sell their wares, sometimes aggressively. Aswan, however, is a city where many Nubians who were displaced by the rising waters of Lake Nasser settled. These people are fun loving and gentle and make the shopping experience at the Aswan Spice Market (Souk) really enjoyable.
The quantity and variety of wares is astounding, and the further away from the center of the market you go, the more interesting the merchandise. There are clothing shops, spice shops, a bakery, toy stores, jewelry specialists, and the usual myriad of faux ancient artifacts, Nubian baskets, scarves, trinkets, and other things. "
